Cleopatra and Mark Antony was a very famous relationship that
could closely relate to Romeo and Juliet. The story of Mark Antony and Cleopatra is a long loving story. After
Antony of Rome accused Cleopatra of aiding the enemy during Rome’s civil war,
Cleopatra tried to “woo” him into dropping the charges. She dressed as the god
of love, Venus. Antony fell in love and followed Cleopatra back to Egypt. After
he got there he promised Cleopatra that he would protect the crown and Egypt.
He spent a year in Egypt then returned home to Rome. He married Octavian’s
sister Octavia.
Cleopatra found out that she was pregnant with Antony’s twins. After
several of years Antony and Cleopatra were untied again. Cleopatra then had
another of Antony’s sons. Then a war of propaganda started by Octavian because
Antony declared his youngest son of as Caesar and rightful heir to Cleopatra.
Octavian claimed that Cleopatra controlled every aspect of Antony’s life.
Octavian declared war on Cleopatra and all of Egypt. He destroyed her forces at
the Battle of Actium. Several of years later he got to Alexandria, Egypt and
defeated Antony. This will help people understand Romeo and Juliet because love
